FuelClinic.com Update

January 18, 2008 · Filed Under Website · Comment

Work on the site is moving along moderately well, I’d say that we’re about 60% done with a real version 1 of the site ready maybe in February sometime.

I’m still working on the internationalization of the application - you’ll notice tonight that there are some new drop-downs in the Fuel Receipt form for quantity, price and odometer — but only US-standard options are available right now. In the near future you’ll be able to select from US-standard to Metric units of measure, as well as a variety of supported currencies. They will be defaulted to the value you select as your profile and vehicle defaults. It will take me a few more days of work to modify all of the code that is dependant on knowing these units…

Also, I’m working on several prototype features - including:

  1. the ability to upload a thumbnail of your vehicle to replace the little green car icon you see now
  2. the ability to import Excel spreadsheets* containing receipt information using .csv file format
  3. the ability to export your receipts to .csv files (Excel) as well as to a .pdf file - so you can get your records out whenever you want
  4. an Excel-spreadsheet-like interface for adding or editing more than one receipt at a time
  5. some slick AJAX features that will speed things up for you
  6. improvements to the various charts (which are currently _very_ basic) including the ability to find “breaks” that happen when a receipt is missing

If you have any suggestions or comments, please add them here as a comment.

* If you have your receipt data in any Excel or other format, I’m interested in using it to test the import script. If I can get your data imported cleanly, I’ll add it to your account for you. Just email me at feedback@fuelclinic.com for details.

Thanks for using my website!

150 MPG (Equivalent): XH-150 and XH250 Hybrids

At the Detroit 2008 Car show… Details over at Autobloggreen

AFS Trinity Power Corporation is displaying a new hybrid SUV (actually a converted Saturn Vue) that gets more than 150 mpge thanks to something AFS calls the Extreme Hybrid (XH). The SUV recently achieved “more than 150 miles per gallon of gasoline based on the EPA Combined Urban/Highway Driving Cycle with 6 days per week of 40 miles per day in all electric mode and one day at 100 miles with assistance of the gas engine.” The test reportedly returned mpge numbers of around 170, but AFS wants to use 150 so as not to leave people disappointed if they drive more aggressively or under different circumstances than the test was run in.

$2500 Sticker Price & 47 MPG - But would YOU drive it?

The Indian car company Tata Motors has unveiled is micro-commuter the Nano, designed for developing nations - it’s a simple commuter that will sell in India for about $2500. Air conditioning and radio are extra.

Tata Nano - 47 MPG

This little car has four doors, a 2 cylinder 33-horsepower engine that gets a motorcycle-ish 47 MPG (that’s without any hypermiler tuning) and motors along at a less-than-US-highway-safe 60MPH.

It’s called the “People’s Car”, referring to it’s appeal to people who normally couldn’t afford a vehicle. It will be sold in India later this year, and then distributed to developing countries in the same general area. Read more

New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year! This New Year resolve to change a few habits, save a few bucks, save a few barrels of oil. I’m working to get FuelClinic v.1.0 fully realized, and we’re a few weeks away from that milestone.

In the mean time, you can begin gathering your fuel receipts every time you fill up at the pump. Write your odometer reading on the receipt, and store it in your sun-visor or in a good spot on your dash. After you have 3 receipts, log-in to www.fuelclinic.com and enter the information from your receipts.
