Lot’s of news about car company troubles today…
- Chrysler LLC said on Tuesday its U.S. sales fell 25 percent in May from a year earlier on an unadjusted basis, under pressure from declining demand for large pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.
- Ford Motor Company’s US sales fell 16 percent in May to 217,998 vehicles amid a sharp drop in demand for gasoline-guzzling truck and sport utility vehicles, the automaker said Tuesday.
- General Motors Corp., struggling to return to profit amid record gasoline prices, said it will close four truck plants, make more small cars, and may drop its Hummer brand of large sport-utility vehicles.
- Toyota Motor on Tuesday reported an eight percent drop in May US sales amid a broad economic slowdown.
- Around the country, high gas prices are helping to push more people to leave their cars at home and crowd onto trains, buses and subways.
