Case Study: John’s Jetta
A few weeks ago Kathy called me and told me she needed a “case study” to add to the new press kit she was developing – something that illustrated the benefits of using FuelClinic.com from a member’s perspective.
I went to the database and back to my feedback emails, and found a few members who were obviously using the system regularly, were interested enough to communicate with me about the site and ideas or problems they had, and might possibly want to participate in a case study. I sent a few requests, received a few responses, including one from John Guercio.
From logs and emails I knew John had been using the system a long time, and when I asked him if he’d be interested in talking with Kathy he said “sure”. While I knew he was a “regular”, and I had assumed he was benefiting from using the site, I didn’t have any idea how he had been using the system – pushing it to it’s limits, and saving himself thousands of dollars.
Here’s how it starts:
John was used to receiving an occasional $2,000 expense check for his mileage. But when his company put him on a strict $750 a month expense plan, John knew it was time to take control of his MPGs and start paying better attention to the pain he would soon being feeling at the pump.
To do this, he turned to FuelClinic.com, the Web’s premiere online fuel efficiency tracking and driver improvement resource. His main interest was in tracking his Jetta’s miles per gallon for work-related trips to determine whether or not the new stipend was helping him make money, or causing him to lose it.
Find out how well it worked out for John, how he was able to track his expenses, improve his fuel mileage, decide NOT to get that new car he was looking at, and saved thousands of dollars in taxes last year.
Read the rest of it online, or download the PDF version.
If you are interested in participating in future case studies, please send a note to me at feedback@fuelclinic.com - we are currently looking to create a case study detailing how a small business w/ a small fleet of vehicles has used FuelClinic.com in some way to save money, improve mileage, or track consumption.
Thanks John! Thanks Kathy!
Now for a tall glass of “we can do this”
Truthfully, sometimes it’s hard to keep at it. Then you get reminded why you started.
FuelClinic.com is currently #3 in the running at IdeaBlob
Votes at IdeaBlob are tallied each night, and I just received notice from them that the FuelClinic idea is currently #3 in this weeks “sprint”. This is great news!
This is a good indication that we have a real chance of success with this grant.
I still need your help – for those who have not yet voted, please do so. IdeaBlob does require registration, which is a little bit of a pain, but it helps prevent cheating. (btw: I first registered with them in November 2008, and they have not sent me any spam at all.)
For those that have voted, thank you – may I have another? Please pass on my request for votes and encourage your friends and family members who can spare a few minutes to help.
Details of what the grant would be used for are contained in the proposed idea, but basically the money will be used to produce eco-driving training videos that will demonstrate proven techniques anyone can use to improve fuel efficiency and save gas money.
If our idea should win, the grant money will be spent immediately to stimulate the economies of several small businesses (videographer, director, assistants, test track, car rental, pr person) as well as pay a lucky university student who will help with post-production editing, etc. The videos will become a part of FuelClinic freely available training modules (in development) as well as available to anyone via YouTube.
Thanks again for your help.
- Mike
Help us win $10K grant to produce eco-driving video “clinics” that will teach fuel-efficient driving skills
FuelClinic.com is entered at IdeaBlob to compete for a $10K grant. We intend to use the money to produce several eco-driving training videos that will highlight simple methods anyone can use to reduce their fuel consumption and save gas money.
I need your vote this week to help place our idea into the contest running at the end of this month. Voting is simple, but does require a quick registration. All of the details are available at the IdeaBlob website.
Please pass this request on to anyone you think would support this idea. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
Fuelishness Feed: FastSkinz Fail; The NEW Pumped-Up Prius; 10,561 MPG Econo-Coffin; Tata’s Start-Stop – Sound Familiar?
- Popular Mechanics Tests FastSkinz Car Wrap: Essentially, in our test, we found no real fuel-economy improvement from the Fastskinz MPG-Plus wrap. And if you trust Ford’s MPG displays, the Fastskinz Flex actually delivered slightly worse fuel economy on our loop. So two identical vehicles, on an identical route at identical speeds, with the same drivers, on the same day, returned nearly the same fuel economy. Where did MPG-Plus go wrong?
- The New Toyota Prius Has 22% More Power: At the same time overall fuel economy has been improved by 10 per cent, new Prius returning 72.4mpg in combined cycle driving. The adoption of a larger, 1.8-litre engine reduces the rpm during high-speed driving to give a 10 per cent gain in long-haul cruising fuel efficiency. And with more torque produced at lower engine speeds, new Prius offers more relaxed cruising performance, too.
- 10,561 Miles Per Gallon: But there are a few drawbacks. You would have to drive lying on your back in a space no bigger than a coffin.
- Tata Motors — Stop-Start Technology good for 6-10% Better Fuel Efficiency: Market sources indicate that now Tata Motors has the technology it can be extended to its other range of products like passenger vehicles and trucks . In a ‘stop-start’ technology, the vehicle’s ECU (electronically controlled unit) is so programmed that after 10 seconds of it recognising that the engine is on but idle, it automatically switches off the engine.
